Autumn Weeds
This is a painting I did some months back now. It does remain one of my favourites and yet it’s relatively simple.
I found it tricky when I painted it which I guess shows I’m improving in my knowledge at least. It was largely a sky background then a darker foreground, and the gold colours highlight the shadows. Despite it’s relative simplicity and use of only a few colours, I was very pleased with how it came out and it rather inspired me to continue. I think this was one of the first paintings where I didn’t feel like tearing it up halfway through and it resulted in something I am very pleased with. It gave me the confidence to continue and to learn more, which has served me in good stead since.
When I learned to paint as a child I never really thought about what I was actually doing, never gave my work any critical thought. I guess that’s what kids do. Now I do constantly so perhaps it’s an age thing. But certainly I feel much happier now about most of my work than I did when I started painting again just a few months ago. Ultimately, that’s the main thing so long may it continue.
